Summer Solstice
Jun 21st, 2008 by QuirkyVegan
This morning I set my alarm for 4am and went down to the sea front to watch the midsummer sunrise. Unlike the Stonehenge celebrations, the weather was fantastic. I drove down in my car and was glad I did as the nightclubs were still tipping out and I didn’t fancy walking through a load of drunk people while sober ![]()
In just a few minutes, though, I was pulling up in the leisure centre car park for a ringside seat for the celestial light show. I was all alone and it felt great.
At the moment of sunrise, it was amazing, like a light coming on. As the sun grew over the horizon, I could actually feel that it was the earth moving and the rising of the sun was just a consequence of the earth spinning.
Even better, when I got back and climbed into bed an hour later, I had a lucid dream. I was flying, Mary Poppins style with my umbrella, but I couldn’t get very high, only to about first storey height, and I was desperate to get above the rooftops. Not bad for a beginner though.
